Getting Started with Google Search Console
New for 2019, including the new Domain Property and 5 different verification methods
Get the Power of Google's Free Search Console
Google Search Console is not only free, it's also one of the most valuable tools in any SEO's kit. It allows us to troubleshoot problems, research how people interact with our listings on search pages, show us the keywords that bring people to the site, submit a site map, and so much more. Truly an indispensable tool
However, GSC is not the easiest tool to set up. In fact getting it to work with your website can be quite daunting. The reason is that Google makes you prove that you are an owner or manager of a website and therefore have a right to see its sensitive data. They do this through a process called "verification," and that's where it gets a bit confusing.
In this course, Ross Barefoot will walk you through the following methods of verifying your ownership in a way that satisfies Google. Any one of them is enough, and each one is different and useful in a different type of situation.
Completely Updated for 2019
We also show you the new (as of March 2019) domain type property which replaces Google's old property sets. This is a new feature that SEO's love!
Verification Methods Covered
- For a WordPress site: using a plugin and employing HTML tag verification
- Using a verification file uploaded to your website (demonstrated both with "Cpanel" and with an "FTP" client)
- Using Google Analytics (we show you the type of analytics access you need for this one to work)
- Using Google Tag Manager (just like GA, you need the correct rights to use this method, and we show you how to check)
- Placing a DNS record (in this case we show you where to go in Cpanel to get it done). We show you this method at the same time showing you how to add a new domain type property to GSC
Finally we also give you a final lesson on how to unverify a site to remove a user who should no longer have access.
